View original imageMuan County in South Jeolla Province has convened a "Special Inspection Meeting for Establishing Extreme Heavy Rain Countermeasures in Muan-eup" to prevent the recurrence of recent torrential rain damage and to ensure the safety of its residents, taking practical steps to develop effective response measures.
According to the county on August 14, a meeting was held the previous day, presided over by Governor Kim San, in the 4th-floor conference room of the Muan County Health Center, with 11 department heads in attendance. The participants discussed the rainfall status and cause analysis of the torrential downpours that occurred on July 17 and August 3, as well as countermeasures against flooding.
During the meeting, a comprehensive report on the causes of flooding was presented, followed by departmental reports and discussions on countermeasures. Afterwards, they visited sites near the health center, including Mimok and Useong Villa, to directly inspect the installation of flood barriers for apartment complexes and to review the heavy rain countermeasure plans on site.
At the meeting, Governor Kim urged, "Please do your utmost to ensure the safety of residents so that flood damage does not recur through preemptive measures."

The county plans to allocate an emergency budget of 800 million won to carry out projects such as dredging, reinforcing, and constructing new drainage channels in flooded areas, as well as supporting the installation of flood barriers. In the long term, the county aims to promptly complete the ongoing comprehensive disaster risk management project for areas vulnerable to storm and flood damage, and, through the Water and Sewerage Office, to apply for a 50 billion won project focused on flood prevention in key sewer management areas, thereby establishing mid- to long-term disaster prevention measures.
