The Department of Nursing at Honam University announced on August 14 that seven students (Kook Ji-yoon, Park Yoon-jin, Jung Ji-hyun, Kim Ji-won, Shim Ye-jin, Lim Se-heun, and Park Ha-young) from the Global Citizenship Club "Odagada" received the Young Scholar Award at the 23rd International Conference for Media in Education (ICoME).

This year’s International Conference for Media in Education was held under the theme "Innovation in Educational Media: Toward Responsible and Inclusive Future Learning." Over 230 participants-including professors, graduate students, and undergraduates-from 11 countries including Korea, Japan, China, and the United States attended. The conference featured a total of 110 presentations, including 54 roundtable session presentations. Among them, the Odagada team from Honam University’s Department of Nursing was the only team comprised solely of undergraduate students to receive an award, making their achievement even more significant.

Under the guidance of Professors Jang Yoon-kyung and Lee Seong-a, the awardees presented on the topic "Learning and Discovery in a Design Thinking Process Utilizing Generative AI: A Case Study of Reusable Container Policy Design," which covered the process and outcomes of their youth policy development project that has been ongoing since 2024.

The presentation focused on designing a feasible reusable container policy from the perspectives of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and ESG management to address the increasing use of disposable products at Kia Champions Field. The research explored the educational and practical effects of applying a design thinking methodology utilizing generative AI.

This project was a collaborative effort among Honam University, the Gwangju Metropolitan City Council for Sustainable Development, and the Gwangju Talent Lifelong Education Promotion Agency. It was recognized as an exemplary case for promoting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) among young people.

Meanwhile, "Odagada" is the Global Citizenship Club of Honam University’s Department of Nursing. The club works to enhance young people’s capacity for sustainable development by connecting local and global issues. They conduct campaigns, policy proposals, and educational activities on diverse topics such as environment, health, and human rights, continuing projects that combine academic study with practical action.
