Angye-myeon in Uiseong Revitalizes Seniors with Arts Education
“Youth Trip on Yesulro”
Enhancing Cognitive Function and Emotional Well-being for Seniors Through Art
Angye-myeon in Uiseong County, Gyeongbuk, is actively running the cultural and arts education program "Youth Trip on Yesulro" to enhance cognitive function and quality of life for the elderly.
The program is held once a week for four weeks starting August 11, with each session lasting two hours at the Dodeok 1-ri Community Center in Angye-myeon.
This educational initiative is part of a project to promote resident self-governance and features a participatory format that combines various artistic experiences-such as making tile coasters, fans, and fabric bags-with reminiscence therapy. Hands-on creative activities are considered to stimulate cognitive function and provide emotional stability for seniors.
Participating seniors expressed their satisfaction, saying, "The time spent laughing and talking with neighbors while making art together was truly precious."
Kim Hyunju, Director of Angye Art Museum, and instructor Choi Minkyoung commented, "We hope that art will invigorate the lives of local seniors and strengthen community bonds," adding, "We will continue to offer enjoyable and meaningful programs in the future."
