Israeli Military Approves Plan for Operation to Seize Gaza City
The Israeli military has approved a plan for a military operation aimed at seizing Gaza City, a densely populated area in the northern Gaza Strip.
On August 13 (local time), Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir convened a leadership meeting where he presented and approved key concepts related to the "next phase" in Gaza, as directed by the political leadership, according to the Israeli military. The meeting also discussed the ongoing operation that began the previous day in the Zeitoun area of Gaza City.
Zamir emphasized the need to secure time for reorganization and recovery before carrying out future missions, and highlighted the importance of strengthening troop readiness and preparation for reservist mobilization. The local daily Times of Israel reported that the military is not expected to immediately launch an offensive on Gaza City.
Zamir is reported to have recently clashed with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over the plan to seize control of Gaza City.
