The First Heuksan Island Film Festival to Open: A Special Encounter Between Island and Cinema
Shinan County to Host Heuksando Film Festival as Part of K-Tourism Island Project
Video Contest, Documentary Screenings, and Trekking Events Planned
Shinan County, South Jeolla Province, will host the "2025 Heuksan Island Film Festival" in the Sari area of Heuksando for two days starting August 15.
This inaugural film festival is part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's K-Tourism Island Heuksando "Jasan Eobo Camp" project. It was planned to spotlight the nature and culture of Heuksando through film and to promote the island's unique appeal.
The festival will open with the awards ceremony for the "Heuksan Island Video Contest" and screenings of the winning works. The contest attracted a variety of short films set on Heuksando, including documentaries and vlogs. After a judging process, a total of five works, including one grand prize winner, were selected. These films will be screened for audiences during the festival.
Among the invited works is the documentary "Pasi," which reconstructs the floating maritime market "Pasi" that once operated on Heuksando. The film is co-directed by Kang Jeyoon, director of the Island Research Institute and author of "Walking the Border Islands of the Sea," and Choi Hyunjung, director of the KBS Lunar New Year special documentary "Mother's Table Flower," drawing significant attention.
In addition to film screenings, a variety of side events will be held during the festival, including "Heuksan Island Trekking," "Sari Sandai," a community event for residents and tourists, and the "Heuksando Skate Fish Filleting Show," presented by Heuksando native and entrepreneur Jung Taeyeon.
