Construction of Vietnam’s First 400kV EHV Cable Plant
Daehan Cable’s First Overseas EHV Production Base
Operations Targeted for 2027, Boosting Global Competitiveness
Accelerating Expansion in Vietnam and International Markets

On August 13, Daehan Cable announced that its Vietnamese production subsidiary, Daehan Vina, will construct a factory for the production of 400kV-class extra-high voltage (EHV) cables. This will be Daehan Cable's first overseas EHV cable plant. Through this initiative, the company aims to advance its local production system and enhance its competitiveness in global contract bids.

The new factory will be built on a site of approximately 56,200 square meters (about 17,000 pyeong) within the Long Thanh Industrial Complex in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam, where Daehan Vina’s existing cable factory is located. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of next year, with operations targeted for 2027. As there are currently no 400kV-class EHV cable manufacturing plants in Vietnam, Daehan Vina will become the country’s only production base for 400kV cables once the factory is completed.

The construction project is expected to require an investment of around 75 billion KRW. Daehan Cable plans to support the stable execution of the project by guaranteeing approximately 63 billion KRW in debt that Daehan Vina will raise for the construction.

Through this investment, Daehan Vina plans to respond to the growing demand for EHV cables in the Vietnamese market, while also accelerating its expansion into major regions where demand is expected to increase, such as Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. The company also intends to develop this site as a second global production base, following its Dangjin Cable Plant, by continuously expanding its facilities and investing in technology development.

Vietnam is experiencing a surge in electricity demand due to rapid industrialization. Annual demand is expected to grow by about 10-12% through 2030, with large-scale new projects planned for transmission networks using EHV cables of 220kV or higher. As the domestic market expands, the ability to secure price competitiveness through reduced labor and logistics costs is creating favorable conditions for winning global contracts.

A Daehan Cable representative stated, "Vietnam’s excellent industrial environment, infrastructure, and geographical advantages will provide a strong foundation for Daehan Vina to establish itself as a key global supplier in the EHV cable sector. With this factory investment, Daehan Vina will drive the advancement of Vietnam’s power grid and expand its presence beyond Asia to the global market."

Established in 2005, Daehan Vina is a comprehensive cable manufacturer based in Ho Chi Minh City, currently employing about 300 staff members. The company produces a wide range of products, including high-voltage and medium- to low-voltage power cables, as well as overhead lines. To meet global cable market demand, Daehan Vina has been continuously expanding its facilities and investing in technology, achieving sales of 140.3 billion KRW last year-a result approximately 20% higher than in 2023.
