Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sang-jin) announced on August 13 that it has renovated a 757-square-meter public open space at the entrance of the underground passage (Tokkigul) at 184-1 Jeongja-dong, Bundang-gu, transforming it into a pedestrian walkway with a garden.

Although about 100 people use this shortcut daily, the vacant lot at the entrance had an unpaved, overgrown slope and poor lighting, raising safety concerns.
To improve the environment, the Bundang-gu district office invested 410 million won over the past three months (210 million won from the city budget, 100 million won from the provincial budget, and 100 million won in donations from private companies) to lay sidewalk blocks, plant trees, and install 31 LED landscape lights in the area.
A 20-meter sloped section leading from the crosswalk in front of the Doosan Tower building down to the Tokkigul entrance has been fitted with wooden stairs and a roofed canopy.
Additionally, six solar-powered lighting fixtures and an 80-meter-long wooden deck in a "ㄷ"-shaped layout were installed, allowing visitors to stroll through the garden within the public open space.
The roofed wooden stairs and solar lighting fixtures were installed using a total of 100 million won in donations, with Doosan Enerbility and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries each contributing 50 million won. These facilities will be donated to Seongnam City.
