Why Are Foot Volleyball Enthusiasts Gathering at a Pub?... Busan Foot Volleyball Association Hosts 'One-Day Hof' for National Sports Festival Success
"No Operating Budget for Busan Team
Despite Being a Demonstration Sport at the National Sports Festival"
Foot volleyball enthusiasts and citizens of Busan will gather in support of the Busan representative team, hoping for their strong performance as a demonstration sport at the National Sports Festival.
The Busan Metropolitan City Foot Volleyball Association will host a "National Sports Festival Success One-Day Hof" event starting at 4 p.m. on August 12, rallying support for the athletes who are training hard despite the summer heat. This event is designed to strengthen unity, bringing together athletes and citizens ahead of the National Sports Festival.
The main reason the Busan Foot Volleyball Association is opening a one-day pub is financial. Although foot volleyball will be featured as a demonstration sport at the National Sports Festival, which will be held in Busan in October this year, there is a severe lack of budget to provide the Busan team with uniforms, practice balls, other equipment, and related expenses. Additional costs are incurred for organizing practices and providing meals for players who have day jobs, but the association’s budget alone is insufficient to cover these needs.
An association official explained, "Support and sponsorship from foot volleyball club members and citizens are desperately needed at this Hof Day event," adding, "Although the National Sports Festival is being hosted in Busan, we have not received sponsorship from public institutions or organizations, so we decided to organize this fundraiser in hopes of gaining support from citizens."
Although foot volleyball is becoming more popular as a recreational sport, it remains a less popular mainstream sport and faces many hardships. Despite being an affiliate of the Busan Sports Council, foot volleyball does not enjoy the continuous sponsorship and support that more popular sports receive, leaving it isolated. Even when association executives appeal to the city of Busan and other authorities for help, they often receive no response.
Park Samcheol, president of the Busan Foot Volleyball Association, said, "In order to make Busan proud at the National Sports Festival, the interest and support of citizens is more important than anything else," adding, "If many people join us, it will be a great encouragement."

At the event, guests will be served cold drinks and snacks, and there will be opportunities to speak directly with the athletes. Through this gathering, the association aims to boost the tournament atmosphere and further energize the local sports community.
