Police Book Pastor Jun Kwanghoon on Additional Charges of Embezzling Prison Deposit Funds
It has been confirmed that police have additionally booked Pastor Jun Kwanghoon of Sarang Jeil Church on charges of embezzling prison deposit funds, as they investigate allegations that he ordered violent acts during the break-in at the Western District Court.
An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated at a regular press briefing on the 11th that Pastor Jun was booked and is under investigation for embezzlement of prison deposit funds as of early this month.
The police are examining whether Pastor Jun used the prison deposit funds for purposes unrelated to the church's mission. A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official said, "We plan to focus the investigation on whether the prison deposit funds were used for activities aimed at expanding influence on YouTube."
Previously, on August 5, police intensified their investigation by conducting a search and seizure of Pastor Jun, Sarang Jeil Church, and others on charges including special trespassing of a building and incitement to obstruct official duties.
Additionally, police are also investigating indications of so-called 'gaslighting,' where religious faith was exploited to induce participation in illegal activities.
