Ulsan Accelerates Ok-dong Military Base Relocation in Nam-gu... Project Plan Approved
Announcement in the Government Gazette on the 11th after consultations with the Ministry of National Defense and the Central Land Expropriation Committee
Urban development utilizing the relocated site aims to resolve regional disconnection and revitalize the local economy
Ulsan City is accelerating the relocation project of the military base located in Ok-dong, Nam-gu.
The city announced that it has received approval from the Ministry of National Defense for the "53rd Infantry Division 127th Brigade Headquarters Negotiated Relocation Project."
In May, the Ministry of National Defense completed consultations with relevant agencies, including the Central Land Expropriation Committee, regarding the "53rd Infantry Division 127th Brigade Headquarters Negotiated Relocation Project" applied for by Ulsan City. In accordance with Article 4 of the Military and Defense Facilities Act, the ministry approved the project plan and officially announced it in the government gazette on August 11.
This project will relocate the existing Ok-dong military base to the Cheongnyang-eup area in Ulju-gun. The vacated site will then be developed by Ulsan City using the "donation and transfer" method.
The Ministry of National Defense will modernize military facilities in line with its defense plans, while Ulsan City will simultaneously proceed with the development of the Ok-dong area.
Starting with the approval of this project plan, Ulsan City will begin compensation for land and property slated to be incorporated into the new military base site in Cheongnyang-eup, aiming to commence construction in the first half of next year.
Subsequently, construction on the new military base site in Cheongnyang-eup is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028. The Ok-dong military base will be relocated in 2029, after which full-scale development of the Ok-dong site will begin in the same year.
