Kim Moonsoo Calls for Resumption of Lee Jaemyung's Trial... Ahn Cheolsoo and Jang Donghyuk Also Support
People Power Party Leadership Candidates Hold Televised Debate
Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor and a candidate for the People Power Party leadership, on August 10 called for the resumption of President Lee Jaemyung's trial. Fellow leadership contenders, Representatives Ahn Cheolsoo and Jang Donghyuk, also expressed their support for this stance.
During a televised debate for the People Power Party leadership candidates held at the Channel A studio in Jongno-gu, Seoul, that afternoon, former Minister Kim stated, "Is it justifiable for the trial to be suspended simply because President Lee was elected?" He insisted, "If I become party leader, I will launch a national petition urging the resumption of the trial."
Representative Jang also emphasized, "Sixty percent of the public believes the trial should continue," and added, "If I become party leader, I will ensure that President Lee Jaemyung stands before the court."
Representative Ahn concurred, saying, "I am someone who has defeated Lee Jaemyung before," and pledged, "Of course, I will participate in the petition movement to restore the rule of law."
In contrast, Representative Cho Kyungtae took a more cautious approach, stating, "President Lee will face trial once his term ends," and added, "While it is possible to call for the resumption, we must also consider the public's concerns."

In response, former Minister Kim asked, "Former President Yoon Sukyeol was investigated even during his term, so why can't Lee Jaemyung be?" Representative Cho countered, "Former President Yoon committed the treasonous act of declaring emergency martial law, so the political circumstances are different," and argued, "Escalating to an all-out confrontation will only harm the public."
