Pure Grain Spirit Brewed with Jindo Rice and Jicho
Smooth and Deep Flavor from Long-Term Aging
Jeonnam Province has selected "Jindo Hongju 58," produced by Daedaero Agricultural Cooperative Corporation in Jindo County, as the representative traditional liquor for August.
The producer, Daedaero Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, has developed and introduced a variety of products such as "Jindo Hongju 38," "Jindo Hongju Arari," and "Jindo Hongju Rubicon" by combining traditional manufacturing methods with advanced brewing techniques studied by liquor experts from Korea and Japan.
As a result, the company has achieved export sales of 200 million KRW by entering overseas duty-free shops in places such as Incheon and Singapore, and is expanding export volumes by focusing on markets including the United States and China.
"Jindo Hongju 58" is a pure grain liquor made from Jindo rice and Jicho. Its flavor improves over time, and it is characterized by a smooth aroma and a strong, deep taste thanks to long-term aging.
Jicho, the main ingredient in Hongju, is a mysterious medicinal herb considered comparable to wild ginseng. As the world’s only red distilled spirit, it is attractive not only in taste but also visually, and it has a unique fragrance.
In particular, despite its high alcohol content, it is exceptionally smooth and easy to drink, with a clean finish and a mild alcohol scent.
It can be enjoyed on the rocks with ice, or in a variety of ways such as cocktails or highballs with beer, carbonated drinks, or tonic water.
Park Sangmi, Director of Agricultural and Food Distribution at Jeonnam Province, said, "Jindo Hongju is a liquor that allows you to experience a unique and deep flavor developed over a thousand years," and added, "We will continue to foster the traditional liquor industry by enhancing the value of Jeonnam's traditional liquor brands and expanding distribution channels."
Meanwhile, Jindo Hongju was designated as Jeonnam Province Intangible Cultural Asset No. 26 in 1994, and received the Excellence Award in the distilled liquor category at the 2024 Namdo Korean Liquor Awards.
