Tongyeong City Selected as Final Pilot Area for "Education Development Special Zone" ... Up to 3 Billion KRW in Annual Support
Tongyeong City in Gyeongnam Province has been finally selected as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education announced on August 7 that Tongyeong City was chosen in the Ministry of Education's call for re-designation of pilot areas for the Education Development Special Zone, which was held the previous day.
This selection was made among nine local governments nationwide, including Tongyeong, which was selected as a preliminary area in last year's second round of applications, as well as Wando, Jindo, Goheung, Boseong, and Jangheung in Jeonnam Province, Gapyeong, Hongcheon, Cheongju, Yeongdong, Jeungpyeong, Gyeongju, and Mungyeong.
As a result, Tongyeong City has become the 14th pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone in Gyeongnam Province and will receive up to 3 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of Education each year.
Based on this budget, Tongyeong City plans to establish a system for nurturing cultural and artistic talent by utilizing the region's unique cultural, environmental, and educational assets, and to further develop a regionally tailored education model, including care-based education that leverages the characteristics of a maritime city.
Through these efforts, Tongyeong aims to become an "Education City" where children's dreams can come true.
The provincial office of education evaluated this final selection as the result of ongoing collaboration with Tongyeong City to achieve regionally tailored educational innovation.
