Naver Cloud to Build Digital Twin Disaster Prevention System for Japanese Local Government
MOU Signed with Nagai City, NTT East, and Korea Water Resources Corporation
Building a Digital Twin... Real-Time Integration of Data Such as Precipitation
Naver Cloud will build a disaster prevention system based on digital twin technology for a local government in Japan.
On August 7, Naver Cloud announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nagai City in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, NTT East, NTT e-Drone Technology, and Korea Water Resources Corporation to strengthen regional disaster prevention capabilities using digital twin and drone technologies.
Naver Cloud signed a business agreement to strengthen regional disaster prevention with Nagai City in Japan, NTT East, NTT e-Drone Technology, and Korea Water Resources Corporation. Jang Byunghun, Head of Water Resources and Environment Division at Korea Water Resources Corporation, Shin Jihyun, Executive Director of Japan Business Development at Naver Cloud, Uchiya Shigeharu, Mayor of Nagai City, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, Yamaguchi Tadayuki, Head of Business Development at NTT East, and Takizawa Masahiro, CEO of NTT e-Drone Technology, are posing for a commemorative photo. Japan is experiencing an increase in natural disasters due to global warming, while also facing a labor shortage caused by an aging population. In particular, Nagai City has suffered repeated large-scale flooding during heavy rainfall because of the Mogami River and its tributaries running through the city.
Naver Cloud will be responsible for building the digital twin. By using drone-captured data, the company will create a high-precision 3D model of the city and provide a digital environment that integrates real-time data such as water levels and precipitation, enabling unified management of disaster prevention situations.
This project will be carried out through a collaborative system that leverages the expertise of each participating organization. Korea Water Resources Corporation will provide solutions related to water resources, including flood prediction and flood simulation. NTT e-Drone Technology will supply aerial imaging data. NTT East will oversee the project and support the construction of disaster prevention infrastructure and wireless networks. Nagai City will provide administrative data and cooperate in verifying the feasibility of the project.
The participating organizations plan to expand the use of digital twin technology beyond disaster prevention to include urban planning, analysis of floating populations, and other applications.
Kim Youwon, CEO of Naver Cloud, said, "This collaboration to build a disaster prevention system was made possible by Naver Cloud's extensive experience in global projects and proven technological capabilities," adding, "We will continue to contribute to solving social issues through technology and drive meaningful change together with global partners through ongoing innovation."
