On August 5, the county announced that it had prioritized the release of 140,000 spotted sea bass that were being farmed in the waters off Ap-hae-eup, where a high-temperature advisory had been issued.
This measure was carried out swiftly, focusing on areas at risk of damage, after conducting a demand survey among local fish farmers.
A total of four fish farms applied: two in Ap-hae-eup with 140,000 fish and two in Anjwa-myeon with 60,000 fish. Additional releases are planned in the Anjwa area in line with the issuance of the high-temperature advisory.
The released spotted sea bass are healthy individuals measuring 6 to 11 centimeters in length and have passed infectious disease inspections by the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service. The county also plans to implement protective measures such as fishing bans and gear restrictions in the release areas to aid in the recovery and conservation of fisheries resources.
Currently, Shinan is strengthening on-site guidance in accordance with its step-by-step response manual, including early shipment and suspension of feed supply, to prevent mass mortality and other damage at fish farms, following the issuance of high-temperature advisories for the waters between Imjado and Hyojido (July 9) and the Heuksan-myeon area (July 29).
In addition, the county is making every effort to minimize damage from high water temperatures by providing real-time information through text alerts and site visits, as well as by expediting budget execution and expanding response projects.
