"Beat the Heat Wave": Gwangmyeong Installs 16 Cooling Fog Units in Cheolsan Commercial District
Lowers Surrounding Temperature by 3 to 5 Degrees to Prevent Heat-Related Illnesses
Park Seungwon, Mayor, Says "We Will Strive to Protect Citizens' Health"
On August 5, the city of Gwangmyeong in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will install and operate "cooling fog" systems along Rodeo Street in the Cheolsan commercial district to prevent heat-related illnesses caused by the ongoing heat wave.

When this mist comes into contact with hot air, it evaporates and lowers the surrounding temperature by approximately 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
The city explained that it installed the cooling fog systems using disaster management funds secured through Gyeonggi Province's heat wave mitigation facility installation project.
The newly installed cooling fog systems consist of a total of 16 units on the east side of Rodeo Street in the Cheolsan commercial district: 4 mist poles (pillar-shaped) and 12 mist bars (pipe-shaped). The mist poles are installed around streetlights, while the mist bars are attached to the tops of bench canopies to avoid obstructing pedestrian traffic.
The city plans to begin full operation after a trial run this week. The systems will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and when the temperature is above 25 degrees Celsius, they will run for 3 minutes followed by a 1-minute pause. The city will adjust operations flexibly depending on weather conditions such as heat wave advisories and tropical nights.
