KGA and Mobil Robotics File Patent for Humanoid Expansion Power Solution
KGA announced on August 5 that Mobil Robotics, its partner in the joint development of humanoid expansion power solutions, has completed the patent application for a "body-integrated secondary battery and its manufacturing method," which is currently under review.
The "expandable power solution" being developed by the two companies is a new-concept battery form factor designed to overcome the limitations of existing single-battery-based drive systems. It can be widely applied to various future mobility sectors, including advanced robotics such as humanoids, drones, and urban air mobility (UAM).
KGA and Mobil Robotics are developing two types of expandable power solutions: the lithium-ion battery-based "FIB (Frame Integrated Lithium Ion Battery)" and the solid-state battery-based "FIS (Frame Integrated Solid-state Battery)." Including this latest application, Mobil Robotics has filed a total of nine related patents.
The two companies expect that, once the patent is registered, they will secure a leading competitive edge in the market for new types of batteries that are differentiated from traditional form factors such as cylindrical, pouch, and prismatic types. Both FIB and FIS are produced with customized structures using 3D design methods, enabling not only various types of humanoid exteriors (protective covers) but also the doors and wings of drones and UAMs to be utilized as power supply devices.
A KGA representative stated, "Regarding the expansion power solution business, we and Mobil Robotics maintain a strong partnership," adding, "Mobil Robotics specializes in technology development, while KGA is responsible for securing mass production technology and expanding our network."
