Gwangju Office of Education Reports 10 After-School Instructors for Accepting Bribes Over Textbook Selection
Received Money from Bookstore for Selecting Textbooks
"Strengthening Management to Prevent Recurrence of Corruption"
On August 4, the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it had reported 10 instructors to the police for receiving money and valuables in connection with the selection of textbooks for the "Neulbom School," an after-school program at elementary schools. The office also requested an investigation into one bookstore that provided the money and valuables.
According to the Office of Education, it was confirmed that these instructors received money and valuables in exchange for selecting books sold by a specific bookstore as textbooks for the Neulbom School. It was found that they worked as after-school instructors at 17 elementary schools in the district last year.
The Office of Education received a civil complaint in October last year, after which it checked the instructors' transaction records and conducted an investigation. Based on the results, the office terminated contracts with the instructors involved and reported them to the police.
