Citizen Safety First... Mayor Lee Kangdeok of Pohang Conducts Emergency On-Site Inspection of Landslide-Prone Areas
Intensive Inspection of Preventive Facilities Such as Drainage, Evacuation Routes, and Waterproof Sheets; Immediate Correction of Deficiencies
Mayor Lee: "Proactive Response to Unpredictable Weather, Preventing Human Casualties is Essential"
Pohang City has conducted emergency on-site inspections and launched an all-out response for areas vulnerable to landslides and those at risk of casualties due to heavy rainfall and typhoons during the summer season.
On August 4, Mayor Lee Kangdeok personally inspected high-risk areas for landslides, such as the cut slope across from the Yongheung-dong Community Center, where rockfalls and slope erosion are likely to occur. He checked disaster prevention measures and reviewed the emergency on-site response system.

The city inspected all preventive facilities in areas at risk of landslide casualties, including ▲drainage management status ▲installation of waterproof sheets ▲securing evacuation routes for residents ▲designation of shelters.
Any deficiencies found during the inspection will be immediately addressed. In the event of future weather advisories, the city plans to convene situation assessment meetings without delay to maintain a thorough disaster response system.
In particular, for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities, the city will establish special management and tailored response systems to ensure rapid evacuation in emergency situations.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok said, "For areas at risk of landslides and flooding, preemptive preparation is the most important factor in preventing damage," and requested on-site officials to "maintain meticulous, field-oriented inspections and a thorough response system at all times."
Based on its preemptive response system for landslide-prone areas, Pohang City made every effort to ensure citizen safety by maintaining a swift resident evacuation system even during the heavy rainfall on July 19 that caused significant damage nationwide.
Through resident evacuation, preemptive control of underpasses and Saewolgyo bridges, emergency restoration of soil outflow, and close cooperation with related agencies, all 90 households and 120 residents who evacuated at the time were safely able to return home on the morning of July 20, the day after the risk was lifted, without major damage.
