Gwangju City Holds Naming Contest for Sports Facilities at Sports Complex and Culture and Sports Center
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on August 4 that it will hold a public contest for citizens to name the sports facilities within the tentatively named 'Gwangju Sports Complex' and 'Gwangju City Culture and Sports Center,' which are currently under construction at 23-9 Yangbeol-dong.
The Gwangju Sports Complex, currently under construction, is the first comprehensive sports facility in Gwangju City. It is being built on a total site area of 123,903 square meters and will include a main stadium with 12,505 seats, a Class 3 certified swimming pool, a bowling alley with 24 lanes, as well as auxiliary stadiums for soccer and baseball. Construction is progressing smoothly, with completion targeted for the end of February next year.
The Gwangju City Culture and Sports Center, which opened in 2011, has been operated as a complex facility combining sports and culture. Earlier this year, the name of its performance hall was changed to 'Gwangju City Arts Center.' In line with this, a public contest has been launched to give the sports facilities their own unique names.
The naming contest will run until August 18, and any member of the public interested in Gwangju City's sports facilities may participate. To apply, participants should download the application form from the announcement posted on the city's website, fill it out, and submit it by mail or email.
The submitted names will undergo a citizen preference survey and a review by an expert judging panel before the final selection is made. The results are scheduled to be announced on the Gwangju City website in September.
