Pre-registration Required from September 4 to 8... Program Begins in September
Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gijae) is operating a customized exercise program for seniors, called 'Wise Senior Exercise Life,' at the public health center annex to prevent the decline of physical function in the elderly and to support a healthy later life.

Sarcopenia, which occurs as muscle mass decreases, is considered a major cause of falls, fractures, and chronic diseases. The district has been promoting a group exercise program with experts since this year to prevent these issues through exercise and to provide seniors with opportunities to manage their own health.
The program focuses on practical, full-body functional exercises closely related to daily life, including muscle massage using foam rollers, balance exercises to prevent falls, stretching to relieve pain, back exercises, and proper walking. Participating seniors can receive individual health assessments before and after the program, and through linkage with the home visit health management project, they can also receive continuous health monitoring from visiting nurses at the local community center.
In addition, a dedicated group chat room (KakaoTalk) will be created to promote communication among participants by sharing exercise certification photos, video lectures, and card news, which is also expected to help alleviate social isolation and prevent depression.
The program will be held every Thursday at 2 p.m. for 10 weeks from September 4 to November 13, in the large education room on the 2nd floor of the Yangcheon-gu Public Health Center Annex. The target participants are 30 seniors aged 65 or older who are able to engage in physical activity and reside in the district. Seniors wishing to apply can pre-register by calling the Yangcheon-gu Public Health Center from the 4th to the 8th.
Meanwhile, in March, the district opened the 'Public Health Center Annex' near Sinjeongnegeori Station to further strengthen regional health management functions, so that any resident can easily and conveniently receive health management services at a nearby health center.
The Yangcheon-gu Public Health Center Annex provides user-centered healthcare services, allowing chronic disease management services such as consultation rooms, a metabolic syndrome center, dementia prevention screening room, and a smoking cessation clinic to be conducted in a single flow from reception to examination and testing. It is also introducing and operating specialized and innovative healthcare services, including a digital-based safe vaccination platform, health equipment specialized for people with disabilities, and robot-assisted physical therapy.
