On July 31 (local time), Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit scheduled for October.
In a parliamentary address that day, Prime Minister Anwar stated, "I had the opportunity to speak with President Trump this morning," and added, "President Trump has confirmed his attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit this October."
He also mentioned that the results of tariff negotiations with the United States will be announced on the 1st of next month.
President Trump and Prime Minister Anwar have recently been credited with brokering a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, who were involved in an armed conflict. President Trump spoke with the leaders of both countries and urged them to agree to a ceasefire, warning that trade negotiations would be suspended if they refused.
