One Month After the Mayoral Vacancy,
Yeongju City Maintains Stable Governance
Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has maintained a stable municipal administration for a month, even after the vacancy of the 8th popularly elected mayor.
It is being evaluated that Deputy Mayor Yoo Jungkeun, who took office as acting mayor, has effectively emphasized the establishment of public service discipline and clean administration, thereby ensuring responsible governance.
Immediately after taking office, Acting Mayor Yoo prioritized uninterrupted administration and the safety of citizens as his top tasks, focusing on continuity in municipal affairs and stable administrative operations. Through executive official training and pledges to practice integrity, he strengthened the creation of a corruption-free public service culture and reinforced field administration that citizens can directly experience.
Regarding the recent issue of the secondary lead smelting plant, he stated, "Citizen safety is the top priority," and expressed his intention to seek reasonable solutions. In addition, he has been visiting major tourist attractions such as Buseoksa Temple, Sosuseowon Confucian Academy, and Museom Village every weekend to inspect tourism infrastructure and review development plans.
He has also continued to meticulously manage policies directly related to citizens' daily lives by holding various meetings such as joint meetings with local town and township heads, festival preparation briefings, and on-site inspections.
Acting Mayor Yoo said, "I will do my best for regional development together with citizens, minimizing any administrative gap and seeking answers in the field," and added, "I will communicate closely with public officials to ensure that key pending issues and priority projects proceed without setbacks."
On his first day in office, Acting Mayor Yoo, without a separate inauguration ceremony, visited departments to greet staff and has since focused on resolving current issues by inspecting areas vulnerable to heavy rain, visiting related organizations, and listening to difficulties faced by businesses.
