The visiting delegation then attended the Korean War Armistice Commemoration Ceremony and the launch ceremony for the preservation and management of the Pohang Mugunghwa-gil, both held in Pittsburgh.
About 60 people attended the event, including Lee Jaeyong, Director of the Pennsylvania Office of the Consulate General in New York, Korean War veterans from Western Pennsylvania, and officials from Allegheny County. Pohang City met with members and volunteer families of the Korean Association of Greater Pittsburgh (President Jang Junho), the event's organizing body, to request cooperation for systematic maintenance and management of Mugunghwa-gil, as well as to seek community support and participation for the sister-city partnership.
In 2023, Pohang City established the "Pohang Mugunghwa-gil" in Pittsburgh to honor the dedication of Korean War veterans and Korean residents in the city, and signed a letter of intent for exchange with the Korean Association of Greater Pittsburgh.
This visit focused on laying a practical foundation for the sister-city relationship, based on participation in the Mugunghwa-gil preservation launch ceremony and on-site inspection.
A city official stated, "We are reflecting diplomatic advice in consultation with the Consulate General, and we will make thorough preparations so that friendly cooperation with Pittsburgh can lead to the establishment of a sister-city relationship."
