Nextchip Strengthens Dedicated Robotics Team as Results Materialize with Hyundai Robot Integration
Nextchip, a company specializing in automotive semiconductors, announced on July 25 that it is strengthening its dedicated organization for the robotics sector and accelerating its entry into the robotics market.
Nextchip is targeting the rapidly growing robotics market by leveraging its video processing and transmission technologies accumulated through automotive semiconductor development. The company is expanding its application areas beyond its traditional automotive-focused business structure to include industrial robots and other fields. It is also accelerating its market entry by developing related sensor modules and system-on-module (SoM) products.
This reinforcement of its dedicated organization is already producing tangible results. Nextchip's camera module chip will be installed in Hyundai Motor Company's small mobility platform 'MobED', which is scheduled for release at the end of the year. 'MobED' is a next-generation robot equipped with a gripper, a device that enables grasping and manipulation of objects, as well as autonomous driving capabilities, and is expected to be utilized in various industrial sectors.
Recently, the role of cameras used in robots has shifted from simple video display to sensing technologies capable of object detection, recognition, and real-time control. In response to these market changes, the company is focusing on developing products optimized for robotic environments by utilizing its image signal processing (ISP)-based video processing technology and artificial intelligence (AI) computing technology based on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) solutions.
In particular, Nextchip's ISP technology supports various image quality enhancement features required in robotic environments, such as distortion correction, noise reduction, and HDR. The SoM product, which is a module utilizing ADAS technology, is being developed to enable integrated processing of video input, recognition, and control computation within a single module, making it easily applicable to a wide range of robots.
With the installation of its products in Hyundai Motor Company's MobED, Nextchip has officially begun the commercialization of its robotics product lineup. The company is expanding its business domain from the automotive sector to robotics to secure new growth drivers. As the global robotics market grows rapidly, the demand for vision technologies is increasing significantly, and Nextchip is expected to establish a stable source of revenue in the future.
