Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) has begun reviewing key tasks to realize the vision of the 8th popularly elected administration: "A City Embracing Happiness, Gijang Opening the Future."

The committee reported that, after reviewing the 14 detailed projects under the eight major policy tasks it had previously proposed, the average implementation rate reached 67%.
Notable achievements were made in the following areas: revitalization of the local economy, policies closely related to residents' daily lives, and expansion of tourism infrastructure.
First, the county achieved results through a policy to allocate direct contract construction projects to local companies. In the first half of this year, the proportion of direct contract construction projects awarded to local companies was 65.3%, an increase of 19.1 percentage points compared to 46.2% in 2023. Customized job creation policies, such as the AI urban smart farm workforce training program supporting reemployment for retirees aged 55 and older, and elevator safety training for the "new middle-aged," have also gained traction.
Resident health management services have also been expanded. A total of 209 residents participated in the "Primary Care Chronic Disease Management Project," in which the public health center and local medical institutions collaborate to manage chronic disease patients.
There have also been achievements in tourism. The project to enhance the appeal of "Gijang 8 Scenic Spots," the county's representative tourist attractions, is currently underway, and the county has begun developing Jukdo, the second of these scenic spots, as a tourism resource by purchasing the island. At the Jangansa Valley, the construction of new restrooms has greatly improved convenience for visitors.
Upcoming projects are also attracting attention. The undergrounding of utility lines around Gijang Market is scheduled to be submitted to Korea Electric Power Corporation in July and is expected to contribute to revitalizing the market.
Chairman Hong Seongryul stated, "It is very rewarding to see the policies proposed by the committee leading to tangible results," and urged, "Please continue your efforts so that residents can truly feel the changes."
Governor Jung Jongbok emphasized, "We will fulfill the proposed tasks, which are promises made to the residents, and create a Gijang where everyone is happy."
The Gijang-gun Policy Advisory Committee, launched during the 8th popularly elected administration, is an advisory body with 29 members participating in two subcommittees?administration/culture and economy/safety?leading policy innovation and the development of county administration.
