Every Year, 14,000 Young People Leave Daegu Due to Lack of Jobs... Daegu City Council Member Taewoo Kim Proposes Ordinance to Support Youth Enterprises
On July 22, during the 318th extraordinary session, Taewoo Kim, a member of the Daegu City Council (People Power Party, Suseong District 5), announced that the "Daegu City Ordinance on Fostering and Supporting Youth Enterprises," which he had proposed to foster and support outstanding local youth enterprises, was approved by the Economic and Environment Committee.
Kim explained the background for enacting the ordinance, stating, "The youth population in Daegu is decreasing by about 14,000 each year, mainly due to young people leaving for the Seoul metropolitan area in search of jobs." He added, "To encourage young people to settle in the region, it is essential to provide systematic support for youth-run businesses."
The ordinance includes key provisions such as specific plans for fostering youth enterprises, technical support for the development and improvement of youth enterprise products and services, support for outstanding youth enterprises through various Daegu City policy funds, certification of outstanding youth enterprises, and promotion of the purchase of youth enterprise products.
Taewoo Kim emphasized, "Currently, there are about 40,000 youth enterprises in Daegu, which is a positive sign that young people are creating jobs for themselves and establishing roots in the region." He also expressed his expectations for the ordinance, saying, "By institutionalizing policy and financial foundations that enable high-potential youth enterprises to settle stably, I hope this ordinance will not only help reduce the outflow of the youth population but also contribute to greater youth participation in economic activities and the revitalization of the local economy."
