BS Hanyang Announces Special Safety and Health Measures for Construction Sites During Extreme Heat
Cooling Rest Areas and Temperature Control Items Provided
On July 22, BS Hanyang announced that it has designated July and August as a "special safety and health response period for extreme heat" and has implemented protective measures for construction site workers.
The company expects this year's heat wave to be more severe than in previous years. Therefore, it has classified high-risk groups for intensive management, including workers aged 65 and older, those with underlying conditions such as hypertension or diabetes, those with chronic illnesses, and outdoor workers. In particular, the company has strengthened special measures for tasks that involve prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, such as concrete pouring.
BS Hanyang adjusts working conditions in stages based on the perceived temperature. When the temperature exceeds 33 degrees Celsius, workers are given at least 20 minutes of rest every two hours; when it exceeds 35 degrees, they are given at least 20 minutes of rest every hour. If the temperature exceeds 36 degrees for two consecutive days, all outdoor work is suspended from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Workers' health conditions are checked before and after work, and high-risk groups are assigned in pairs so they can respond immediately to any abnormal situations. On-site working hours are also flexibly adjusted.
A "smart perceived temperature measurement system" has been installed at the sites to allow real-time temperature monitoring. Both managers and workers can decide whether to proceed with work based on the perceived temperature.
The working environment has also been improved. BS Hanyang has set up rest areas equipped with cooling systems and provided ice makers and cold water. Cooling items such as air vests, cool scarves, and ice packs are also distributed. Fine mist spray devices have been installed on the upper exterior work platforms where concrete is poured, and shade canopies and heat emergency kits have been prepared.
