100 Days of Kim Seokjun: Launching Three Major Future Education Infrastructures in Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Global Fields
Busan Office of Education Accelerates Establishment of
"Deokdo Arts Maru," "Startup School," and "Glocal Middle School"
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is accelerating efforts to establish foundations for arts, entrepreneurship, and global talent development.
Superintendent Kim Seokjun has officially begun work on establishing future-oriented educational institutions, a key pledge he made after surpassing his first 100 days in office.
According to the office on July 22, the tentatively named "Deokdo Arts Maru" will be created using the site of the former Deokdo Elementary School in Gangseo-gu, Busan. This complex cultural space will be designed to allow students to experience the arts firsthand through collaboration with local artists and to bridge gaps in arts education. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the opening targeted for 2027.
The establishment of the "Busan Startup School," which aims to foster creativity and a spirit of challenge, is also underway. This year, a feasibility study will be launched to lay the groundwork. In particular, the plan is to build a startup ecosystem in connection with vocational high schools, providing a one-stop support system from idea discovery to product launch.
The "Glocal Middle School," which will focus on multicultural bilingual and global citizenship education, will be established on the site of a closed school in western Busan. Designed as a space where multicultural and general students can interact and develop a global mindset, the plan is to secure the site in 2026, begin construction in 2029, and open the school in 2031.
