Naver Cloud Releases 14 Billion Parameter Inference Model for Free Commercial Use
Open Source Release of 'HyperCLOVA X Seed 14B Think'
Developed 'From Scratch,' Not a Modified Overseas Model
Naver Cloud has released a proprietary inference model, developed "from scratch," for commercial use free of charge, aiming to expand the domestic AI ecosystem. Unlike foreign models that have been modified, this open-source release is a lightweight, high-performance model based on original technology.
On July 22, Naver Cloud announced the open-source release of "HyperCLOVA X Seed 14B Think," an AI model that combines reasoning capabilities with lightweight technology. The model is provided in a form that allows for commercial use, enabling companies to freely apply it to real business scenarios beyond research purposes.
This newly released model is a lightweight version of the "HyperCLOVA X Think" announced last month, maintaining performance while dramatically reducing training costs. The model maximizes training efficiency by pruning less important parameters and transferring the knowledge of large models to smaller ones through distillation.
This model, with 14 billion parameters, was trained using fewer computational resources (GPU hours) than a global open-source model with 500 million parameters. Compared to overseas models of the same scale, its per-training cost is only about one one-hundredth. Despite this, it achieved performance comparable to, or even exceeding, models of the same or larger size in various benchmarks, including Korean language, Korean culture, mathematics, and coding.

Previously, in April, Naver Cloud also released three lightweight models as open source, surpassing a cumulative 1 million downloads. Based on this, more than 50 first-generation derivative models have been created and shared, and Korean on-device AI services have emerged, rapidly expanding the HyperCLOVA X open-source ecosystem.
