Jang Donghyuk Vows to Break "Far-Right Frame," Hints at Bid for People Power Party Leadership
"I Will Hold Accountable Those Who Have Insulted the Party and Its Members"
People Power Party lawmaker Donghyuk Jang has directly refuted the recent 'far-right frame' controversy arising both inside and outside the party, while hinting at his intention to run in the upcoming party convention.
On July 21, through his SNS, Jang stated, "The party is being completely engulfed by the far-right frame due to internal saboteurs day after day," adding, "I will become party leader and hold accountable those who have insulted the party and its members."
He continued, "Some outdated media outlets and internal saboteur forces who supported impeachment are branding countless citizens, the People Power Party, and myself, who opposed impeachment, as far-right. I can no longer stand by and watch."
He particularly emphasized, "This party convention has become a battle between the forces defending liberal democracy, who aim to break the far-right frame, and the anti-liberal democracy forces," adding, "I will not hesitate to step forward and participate in this fight with confidence."
Within political circles, the prevailing interpretation is that Jang has made his bid for party leadership official with these remarks.
There is also analysis that, as internal debate over conservative identity intensifies, Jang is taking steps to confront the issue head-on.
