Geumcheon District to Launch "Geumcheon Citizen University" in August with 19 Courses Offered
Geumcheon District in Seoul (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced on the 18th that it will operate the Geumcheon Citizen University for the second half of the year starting next month.
Geumcheon Citizen University is a newly launched initiative this year that transforms the entire Geumcheon area into a single learning space, allowing all residents to easily participate in lifelong learning. The aim is to strengthen residents' future competencies through a variety of courses in fields such as digital technology, environment, and culture.
In the second half of this year, Geumcheon Citizen University will offer a total of 19 courses, primarily through the Citizen Participation Department and the Future Digital Department. Major courses include "Trash Talk," an environmental humanities class addressing issues related to space, the sea, and local waste; hands-on training in AI-based marketing and business automation; digital design using Figma; tips and health routines for single-person households; and understanding generative AI and modern politics, among other practical topics. In addition, there will be a certification program for AI and big data analysis.
The courses will be held at various locations across the district, including the Geumcheon Lifelong Learning Center (Doksan), Gasan Library, and Cheongchun Building. Residents wishing to enroll can apply through the Geumcheon District Education Portal (https://www.geumcheon.go.kr/) or by visiting the Geumcheon Lifelong Learning Center. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The opening ceremony for the second half of the year will take place at 2 p.m. on July 31 at the Geumcheon Lifelong Learning Center. The ceremony will also feature a special joint lecture by Kim Sangyoon, Director of the Korea Digital Economy Research Institute, on the topic "The Future Changed by AI: What Should We Prepare For?"
Geumcheon District plans to gradually expand Geumcheon Citizen University in the future, working in cooperation with partner universities and G-Valley companies to provide additional opportunities for employment and competency development.
