Police Conduct Search and Seizure at Minjung Democracy Party Headquarters over National Security Act Violations
The police have launched a search and seizure operation at the headquarters of the Minjung Democracy Party, which is under suspicion of violating the National Security Act.
The Security Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on July 17 that it is conducting a search and seizure at the Minjung Democracy Party headquarters located in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Previously, the police had summoned and questioned six members of the Minjung Democracy Party, including former party leader Han Myeonghee, who are suspected of violating the National Security Act. They are accused of violating Article 7 of the National Security Act.
The Minjung Democracy Party has reportedly exercised its right to remain silent during the investigation, claiming that the police are unjustly suppressing the legitimate activities of a political party.
The police believe that these individuals engaged in activities favorable to North Korea, such as staging protests demanding the withdrawal of U.S. forces or condemning the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises as "war rehearsals for invading the North," and thus committed acts benefiting the enemy.
