Governor Kim Taeheum: "Chungnam Bio-Healthcare to Become a Key Growth Engine for the Next 100 Years"
On-site Industry Inspection in Cheonan
Announcement of Strategies for R&D, Exports, and Talent Development
Chungnam Province has unveiled a blueprint to foster the bio-healthcare industry as a core strategic sector that will drive the region’s future for the next 100 years.
On July 16, Governor Kim Taeheum attended the 6th On-site Economic Situation Inspection Meeting held at Ceragem, a medical device manufacturer located in Cheonan, where he listened directly to the voices of business leaders and shared the province's industrial development strategy.
The province presented four key strategies through the “Chungnam Bio-Healthcare Industry Development Strategy”: ▲ research and development (R&D) of new technologies and fostering of future industries ▲ strengthening export competitiveness ▲ cultivation of specialized talent ▲ establishment of administrative and institutional foundations.
In particular, starting with the opening of the “Bio-Medical Integrated Support Center” in September, the province plans to complete the “Pharmaceutical Commercialization Center” in November and begin construction of the “Process Development Innovation Center,” thereby establishing a system to advance bio-medical devices and support the entire lifecycle of pharmaceuticals.
Additionally, through the Sleep Industry Promotion Center in the Cheonan-Asan R&D Cluster, the province will support testing and certification for overseas exports of sleep-related products. By 2027, a Bio-Medical Device Overseas Expansion Support Center will be established in the Naepo area to strengthen the response to global regulations.
Furthermore, in collaboration with Soonchunhyang University, the province will nurture talent in the pharmaceutical field, and by centering on the KAIST Green Bio Research Institute, which will be established in 2027, it will build a system to foster green bio experts.
In addition, the province plans to expand comprehensive administrative and institutional support, including pursuing designation as a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex, transitioning to AI-based smart manufacturing, and forming industry-academia-research consultative bodies.
Governor Kim stated, “Chungnam’s bio-healthcare industry is still in its early stages, but we are moving forward step by step with clear goals and direction. We will establish a support system in the province that covers the entire cycle from research and development to licensing, demonstration, and commercialization.”
He added, “The bio-health industry is an essential sector that will sustain Chungnam for the next 50 and 100 years. The province will spare no effort in providing tangible regulatory improvements, talent development, and export support that companies can truly feel.”
