Ministry of Employment and Labor and Police Conduct Search and Seizure at Five Locations Including Incheon Environmental Corporation Over 'Manhole Death'
The Central Regional Employment and Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency announced that, starting at around 9 a.m. on July 16, they have been conducting searches and seizures at five locations, including the headquarters and business sites of Incheon Environmental Corporation and its subcontractors, in connection with the fatal poisoning accident that occurred during a manhole surveying operation in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, on July 6.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the police explained that they have deployed more than 50 personnel, including labor inspectors in charge of serious industrial accident investigations and the criminal investigation unit, to secure evidence to determine whether there were violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and involuntary manslaughter due to professional negligence.
During this search and seizure, the Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to focus on securing evidence to determine whether Incheon Environmental Corporation had actual control, operation, and management over the surveying site and project, and whether appropriate health and safety measures were implemented during work in the confined space inside the manhole.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor emphasized, "Based on the evidence secured through this search and seizure, we will thoroughly investigate whether Incheon Environmental Corporation and other workplaces have established safety and health management systems to prevent poisoning and suffocation accidents during manhole operations, and if any violations of the law are confirmed, we will take strict action."
