Gwangju Donggu Distributes "Vouchers and Climate Shelter Coupons" to Jjokbangchon Residents
Gwangju Donggu District announced on July 11 that it has distributed "Good Sharing Vouchers" and "Climate Shelter Coupons" to help residents of jjokbangchon (shantytown) neighborhoods stay safe during the heatwave this summer.
This initiative, which was first launched last year, has received a strong response from jjokbangchon residents. The district is continuing the program this year to minimize heatwave-related damage for these residents and to provide practical support for their livelihoods.
The "Good Sharing Voucher" is a paper coupon worth 80,000 won per person, which can be exchanged for groceries, daily necessities, or meals at restaurants. In addition, the "Climate Shelter Coupon" is provided in the form of 10 bathhouse vouchers per person, allowing residents who find it difficult to be outdoors during the heatwave to stay cool in designated bathhouse facilities. The Good Sharing Voucher can be used at 16 designated stores, and one climate shelter (bathhouse) is in operation.
Lim Taek, head of Donggu District, said, "We have continued this program this year to help jjokbangchon residents, who live in poor housing conditions, spend the summer in good health," adding, "We will continue to reduce welfare blind spots through comprehensive welfare policies in collaboration with the local community."
