Wando-gun Selects Two Sites for 'Rural Vulnerable Area Improvement Project'
Two Villages in Geumil and Nohwa to Receive 4.7 Billion Won Including National Funding
Residential Environment and Living Infrastructure to Be Improved Starting in 2026
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on July 9 that two villages, Sorang-ri in Geumil-eup and Seokjung-ri in Nohwa-eup, have been finally selected for the '2026 Rural Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project' competition, which is overseen by the Local Era Committee.
This project aims to improve the poor residential environments and living infrastructure in rural and fishing communities, thereby enhancing residents' basic quality of life. It will include the expansion of essential infrastructure such as safety and sanitation facilities, improvements to residential environments, and programs to strengthen residents' capabilities.

View original imageTo be selected for this competition, the county identified new candidate sites and established preliminary plans. It also continuously held resident briefings and steering committee meetings to improve understanding of the project and encourage participation. In April, the final selection process was completed after a preliminary on-site evaluation by Jeollanam-do.
From 2026, when the project is officially launched, a total of 4.7 billion won will be invested over four years, including 3.2 billion won in national funding. With this budget, the county plans to gradually implement projects to improve living conditions, such as repairing dangerous road sections and retaining walls within the villages, demolishing and renovating vacant houses and slate roofs, repairing old houses, removing traditional toilets, and repairing fences.
County Governor Shin Woochul said, "We expect that this project will improve living conditions and enhance the quality of life for residents. I would like to thank Representative Park Ji-won, Jeollanam-do, and the officials of the Local Era Committee for their efforts in securing this project."
