SKT: Separate Penalty Waiver Periods for Customers Staying Abroad or in Military Service
Penalty Waiver Available Upon Submission of Supporting Documents at a Later Date
On July 9, SK Telecom announced that customers who were unable to cancel their contracts within the designated period due to unavoidable reasons, such as staying abroad or serving in the military, will also be eligible for a penalty waiver. These customers can receive the waiver by submitting the necessary supporting documents at a later date.
Previously, on July 4, SKT announced that it would waive penalties for contract customers who canceled their contracts after the security breach incident (as of 24:00 on April 18) and for those who cancel by July 14.
SKT has also established a separate process for customers who, due to unavoidable reasons such as staying abroad or military service, were unable to cancel their contracts before July 14, allowing them to receive a penalty waiver.
Specifically, customers who could not cancel before July 14 due to the following reasons are eligible for the penalty waiver if they cancel within 10 days after the reason is resolved: ▲ long-term hospitalization (hospitalization certificate required), ▲ military service (military service certificate or verification required), ▲ staying abroad (proof of entry and exit required, including seafarers), ▲ residing in remote island or mountainous areas (areas designated under the Island and Remote Area Education Promotion Act, supporting documents related to resident registration required), and ▲ incarceration (proof of incarceration required).
Customers who fall under these categories can apply for the penalty waiver by contacting the customer center (114) after cancellation. For example, a customer who was discharged from long-term hospitalization and wishes to cancel must do so within 10 days after discharge. They should then call the customer center to apply for the penalty waiver and submit the hospitalization certificate.
