On July 9, DS Investment & Securities analyzed that the global popularity of the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" is a positive sign for the growth potential of the entertainment sector and the discovery of new opportunities.
"K-Pop Demon Hunters," which was released on June 20, topped the Netflix Global Top 10 Films chart. In addition, its soundtrack ranked third on the Billboard 200 chart, continuing its box office success.
Jihye Jung, a researcher at DS Investment & Securities, said, "An animated film featuring the non-mainstream genre of K-pop has achieved global success thanks to its compelling story and music." She added, "The high global chart rankings confirm both the genre competitiveness of K-pop and its potential to expand into mainstream culture, depending on story and music."
She continued, "In addition to K-pop, the film attractively portrayed elements of Korean sentiment such as Korean lyrics, Korean food, senior-junior and fandom culture, as well as uniquely Korean characters like shamanism, grim reapers, and tigers." She evaluated, "This proves that the most Korean content can be the most successful globally."
Jung also said, "Netflix is selling related MD merchandise, which is expected to expand IP leverage, increase synergy with content (dramas, films, animation) and entertainment, and foster the growth of the virtual idol market through the formation of a global fandom for the in-film idol groups Huntrix and Sajaboys."
