US to Resume Military Aid to Ukraine: "Will Send Defensive Weapons"
Due to President Trump's Directive
"Ukraine Must Be Able to Defend Itself"
The United States will resume its military aid to Ukraine.
On July 7 (local time), the U.S. Department of Defense announced in a statement that it would send additional defensive weapons to Ukraine.
Previously, the Department of Defense had decided last week to suspend military aid to Ukraine, citing a shortage of weapon stockpiles. As a result, support for 30 Patriot missiles, 155mm artillery shells, Hellfire missiles, Stinger surface-to-air missiles, and air-to-air missiles for F-16 fighter jets, which were scheduled to be sent to Ukraine, was halted.
The Department of Defense stated that the reason for reversing its position was due to President Donald Trump's directive. Earlier, President Trump told reporters at a dinner held at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Ukraine must be able to defend itself and said, "We will send more weapons."
Initially, President Trump was negative about providing military aid to Ukraine. However, after Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected a ceasefire proposal, Trump shifted his stance and decided to resume military support.
