Joo Jinwoo: "Lee Jinsuk Made Typos While Copying Thesis... Abuse of Power Targeting Powerless Students"
"While Young People Spend Sleepless Nights Writing Theses...
She Must Step Down"
Joo Jinwoo, a member of the People Power Party, has called for the resignation of Lee Jinsuk, nominee for Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education, accusing her of "wholesale plagiarism of her student's thesis."
On July 8, Joo posted on his Facebook page a comparison of the theses by Lee and her student, stating, "The plagiarism is clear. I am disclosing the evidence."
He pointed out, "There are sections where entire pages from the student's thesis were copied verbatim, and even tables and formulas were reproduced exactly. In the rush to copy, typos were made as well. For example, 'about 10m' was written as '10m wjddo,' indicating that the plagiarized content was not even properly reviewed."
Joo asserted, "More than 50% of the thesis was plagiarized in this manner. There are over 10 instances of thesis theft," emphasizing, "This is an abuse of power." He added, "She targeted only powerless students who could not raise issues even if their theses were plagiarized."
