Gwangju City to Inspect Hygiene at Food Service Establishments in Multi-Use Facilities During Summer
Hygiene Management and Food Poisoning Prevention Guidelines
for 300 Establishments
On July 4, Gwangju City announced that it will conduct a "joint public-private hygiene inspection" from July 7 to 18 to prevent food poisoning during the summer. This initiative comes ahead of major events such as the "Visit Gwangju Year" and the "2025 Hyundai World (Para) Archery Championships."
This inspection is a measure to prevent food poisoning in advance during the hot and humid summer season and to provide a safe and hygienic dining environment for both domestic and international tourists, as well as citizens visiting Gwangju.
The city will form six inspection teams (18 members) in cooperation with the hygiene departments of the five autonomous districts and consumer food hygiene monitors, and will conduct unannounced inspections. The inspections will target 300 food service establishments located in multi-use facilities across the region.
The main inspection items will focus on areas with a high risk of food poisoning, including: ▲ whether expired food is being used or stored ▲ the hygiene management status of kitchens and cooking utensils ▲ compliance with refrigeration and freezing storage temperatures ▲ and adherence to food poisoning prevention rules.
In particular, reflecting the summer trend of increased consumption of health foods and cold dishes, the city will intensively inspect the hygiene management of establishments handling seasonal foods such as Samgyetang, freshwater spicy fish stew, soybean noodle soup, and cold noodles. The goal is to preemptively eliminate risk factors that could cause food poisoning.
Bae Kangsook, head of the Health and Hygiene Division, stated, "Ahead of international events such as the 2025 Hyundai World (Para) Archery Championships, we will conduct thorough hygiene inspections so that both domestic and international visitors to Gwangju can enjoy their meals with peace of mind." She added, "We will do our utmost to create a safe dining environment that both citizens and tourists can trust."
