View original imageGwangju City will hold a special event until the 23rd to promote the successful hosting of the 'Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships' and the 'Gwangju 2025 World Para Archery Championships,' both scheduled for September, as well as to spread a culture of eco-friendly practices.
This event will be conducted through the official social media (SNS) accounts (YouTube and Instagram) of the championships, where participants can leave supportive comments for the eco-friendly event. To participate, individuals must subscribe (or follow) the official accounts, write a supportive comment on the event post, and then submit it via a Naver form. Among the participants, winners will be selected by lottery to receive tumblers and coffee coupons.
The city and the event organizing committee have adopted "No! Plastic, YES 966" as the core slogan for this event, aiming to achieve carbon reduction equivalent to planting 966 thirty-year-old pine trees.
To this end, the organizing committee is working to minimize the use of single-use plastics inside the venues and to actively utilize online promotional materials based on QR codes instead of paper leaflets, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
In particular, the athletes will be provided with tumblers and drinking water instead of single-use water bottles, and a variety of promotional booths will be operated to allow general spectators to experience carbon neutrality firsthand, such as by reducing their own carbon footprints.
On July 3, Jeon Eunok, Director of Culture and Sports, said, "We hope that this event, which aims to be a sustainable international competition, will deliver not only the 'echo of peace' but also the 'echo of eco-friendliness' to the world, and we encourage active participation from all citizens."
Meanwhile, on July 5, a walking event and an archery experience booth will be held in the area of the 5·18 Democracy Plaza to wish for the successful hosting of the championships and to attract the interest and participation of citizens.
