Naju City Welcomes Kang Sanggu as 22nd Deputy Mayor
Pledging to Realize "Energy Capital, Yeongsangang Renaissance Naju"

View original imageWith the appointment of Kang Sanggu as the 22nd Deputy Mayor, Naju City in Jeollanam-do is accelerating efforts to realize its vision as the "energy capital of Naju" and to advance key municipal initiatives of the 8th popularly elected administration aimed at improving the quality of life for its citizens.
On July 1, Naju City announced that Kang Sanggu, former Director of the Energy Industry Bureau of Jeollanam-do, has been inaugurated as the 22nd Deputy Mayor of Naju.
The new Deputy Mayor Kang, a native of Damyang County in Jeollanam-do, is well known for his commitment to serving Jeollanam-do in various government budget and policy departments at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, where he took on challenging tasks and established a reputation as a dedicated public servant.
He is also recognized as an experienced administrative expert, having held key positions such as Deputy Governor of Haenam County, Director of Corporate City Affairs at Jeollanam-do Provincial Government, and Director of the Energy Industry Bureau.
In particular, during his three-year tenure as Director of the Energy Industry Bureau, he led core policies related to Naju’s identity as the energy capital, gaining a deep understanding of local issues and structures. In 2017, as head of the Jeollanam-do Innovation City Support Group, he also led initiatives such as the Bitgaram Festival and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Innovation City Development Council.
Deputy Mayor Kang began his duties immediately without a separate inauguration ceremony, personally inspecting urgent projects by visiting key sites such as the Complex Innovation Center, the Living SOC Complex Center, and the planned site for the Yeongsangang National Garden.
He stated, "In the era of electric sovereignty and energy hegemony, Naju must stand at the center," and added, "Under Mayor Yoon Byungtae’s leadership philosophy, I will devote myself with our 120,000 citizens to realizing the 'Yeongsangang Renaissance' and building a 'global small but strong city of 200,000'.
Naju City expects that Deputy Mayor Kang’s extensive administrative experience and expertise in the energy industry will provide significant momentum for advancing major initiatives such as fostering new energy industries and establishing the Yeongsangang National Garden, which are core policies for the city.
