Publication of the 2024 Sustainability Management Report
Lotte Shopping CEO and Vice Chairman Kim Sanghyun stated, "We are placing Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) at the core of our management strategy and are shaping the future of sustainable retail through genuine execution."
On July 1, through Lotte Shopping's publication of the '2024 Sustainability Management Report,' Kim said, "We will continue to solidify our position as the first-choice shopping destination for customers, based on trust with a wide range of stakeholders, including shareholders, customers, and partners."
The 2024 Sustainability Management Report details Lotte Shopping's ESG management achievements from the previous year and outlines its future sustainability management strategies.
In the Environmental section, the report includes Lotte Shopping's greenhouse gas reduction plan, which received official approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). In 2023, Lotte Shopping became the first company in the domestic retail industry to join SBTi and establish a reduction plan. In March of this year, the company received official approval. The approved target is to reduce direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3) across the entire retail sector, including Lotte Shopping, by 46.2% by 2031 compared to 2021 levels.
The company has also detailed an implementation roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. Lotte Shopping is carrying out a multifaceted reduction strategy, including expanding solar power facilities, replacing outdated equipment, and introducing high-efficiency devices. As of last year, the company operated solar power facilities at 93 stores nationwide, producing approximately 15.8 million kWh of electricity annually, and expanded the number of electric vehicle charging stations to 1,921 units.
In the Social section, Lotte Shopping introduced and expanded family-friendly policies to address the low birth rate issue, such as 'Expectant Fathers' Prenatal Checkup Leave,' 'Baby Wish Leave,' and 'Mandatory Paternity Leave for Men.'
