Pukyong National University Draws Attention for Research on Hydrogel-Based Smart Materials for Wound Healing and Sensing

Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) announced that the research achievements of Professor Oh Jung Hwan (Department of Biomedical Engineering), Professor Lee Byung Il (Department of Human-Bio Convergence), and Professor Sudip Mondal (Digital Healthcare Research Center) have been published as a cover paper in the international academic journal Aggregate (IF: 13.7), which is published by Wiley.

View original imageThe research team recently published a paper titled "Hydrogel-Based Smart Materials for Wound Healing and Sensing" in this journal, which ranks in the top 8.6% in the field of chemistry and multidisciplinary science.
This paper presents research findings on recent advances in hydrogel-based materials for wound healing and real-time monitoring. In particular, it highlights the innovation of flexible and highly biocompatible hydrogels that mimic the extracellular matrix, while addressing issues related to stability, toxicity, and integration with smart monitoring systems.
Hydrogels are emerging materials that are particularly promising for wound treatment due to their high water content, flexibility, and excellent biocompatibility. The research team demonstrated the role of flexible hydrogel-based materials that can advance biomedical applications, including wound healing, point-of-care diagnostics, smart patches, and wearable devices.
This study involved graduate students Kim Ngan Duong Thi and Truong Tien Bo, and included international collaboration with Professor Uma Padha Pal of Benem?rita Universidad Aut?noma de Puebla in Mexico.
The research team stated, "This study presents a next-generation wound dressing solution that combines biocompatible materials with smart sensing technology, offering superior adaptability and responsiveness with significant clinical impact. By highlighting the innovative potential of multifunctional hydrogels for personalized wound care, we believe our research will contribute to the development of intelligent hydrogel-based materials that integrate real-time monitoring for smart healthcare applications, thereby advancing future medical science."
