Special Prosecutor on Rebellion: "Morning Questioning of Yoon Concluded... Cabinet Meeting and Foreign Exchange Investigation to Follow After Obstruction of Arrest Inquiry"
Morning Questioning Lasts About Two and a Half Hours
Yoon Expected to Have Lunch Inside the High Prosecutors' Office and Attend Afternoon Session
The special prosecutor's team investigating the rebellion completed its morning questioning of former President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 28th after approximately two hours and thirty minutes.
At 12:44 p.m. on the same day, the special prosecutor's office announced to the press that "the morning questioning proceeded smoothly."
Beginning at 10:14 a.m., the special prosecutor focused on allegations that former President Yoon instructed the Presidential Security Service in January to block the execution of an arrest warrant issued by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials. The questioning was led by Park Changhwan, Chief Superintendent and Head of the Major Crimes Investigation Division at the National Police Agency, who has been investigating the case. Senior Inspectors Choi Sangjin and Lee Jeongpil from the same division also participated in the questioning.
After concluding the investigation into the obstruction of arrest charges, the special prosecutor will continue questioning regarding the process of Cabinet approval before and after the declaration of martial law, as well as allegations of foreign exchange violations. The Special Prosecutor Act includes provisions relating to the possibility that former President Yoon may have attempted to provoke North Korea, which could constitute a foreign exchange crime.
Deputy Chief Prosecutors Kim Jeongguk and Cho Jaechul are scheduled to participate in the questioning related to the Cabinet meeting and related matters.
