Goheung County Expands SM Group-Donated Smart TV Support to Newlywed Couples
Overcoming Low Birthrate
Creating a Marriage and Childbirth-Friendly Environment
Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced on June 27 that, starting from July 1, it will expand the eligibility for the 65-inch smart TVs?donated for two consecutive years by SM Group (Chairman Woo Ohyun) and previously provided to families with newborns?to newlywed couples residing in the county.
This expansion is being implemented to address the declining birthrate and to foster a marriage- and childbirth-friendly environment, in response to the increasing number of young people avoiding marriage and childbirth.
The eligibility criteria for newlywed couples are as follows: couples who marry after July 1 and, as of the application date, have at least one spouse who has resided in Goheung for more than six months. Eligible couples can apply for the TV support by submitting the TV application form along with their application for the youth couple wedding expense support.
To promote a marriage- and childbirth-friendly atmosphere, the program has been expanded from families with newborns to include newlywed couples. However, duplicate support between programs will be restricted, and each household will be eligible for support only once, so that more families can benefit.
Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "The TV support for newlywed couples is meant to congratulate them on their marriage and to show that Goheung County supports their precious new beginning. We expect high satisfaction, as the TV can be used as a household item. I would like to once again express my deep gratitude to SM Group for continuously supporting and engaging with our local community issues."
Meanwhile, Goheung County is implementing a variety of childbirth promotion policies, including expanded childbirth incentives (10.8 million won for the first to third child, 14.4 million won for the fourth child and above), maternal health recovery expenses, childbirth blessing packages, 100-day photo shoot vouchers, and 100-day and first birthday party rental services.
