Sejong City Expands Nuri Call Special Transportation Service for the Transportation-Vulnerable
Addition of Four New Vehicles and Recruitment of New Drivers
On June 26, Sejong City announced that it will supply Nuri Call vehicles, a special transportation service for people with severe disabilities and other transportation-vulnerable groups, at the highest level nationwide to strengthen their mobility rights.
The number of Nuri Call vehicles in operation has expanded from 29 to 33 with the addition of 4 new vehicles. As of last year, the supply rate stood at 137.5% compared to the legally required number of 24 vehicles, which is the highest in the nation when compared to the nationwide supply rate of 100.9%. The city expects that mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups, such as people with severe mobility impairments, the elderly, and pregnant women, will be further improved.
According to Sejong City, the operation of Nuri Call, a special transportation service, has grown rapidly since its management was transferred from a disability organization to Sejong Urban Transportation Corporation in 2021. The number of registered users increased more than twofold, from 1,317 in 2021 to 3,160 as of May 2025. The annual number of rides rose from 29,252 in 2021 to 55,542 last year, and it is estimated to surpass approximately 60,000 this year.
To enhance accessibility and convenience for users, the city has operated a 24-hour call center and introduced an app-based location-based instant call system. In addition, it supports wide-area operations not only to nearby cities such as Daejeon, Cheongju, Gongju, and Cheonan, but also to the Chungnam and Chungbuk regions.
Recently, the city has further improved user satisfaction by enhancing app functionality, supporting late-night operations, and reducing vehicle dispatch waiting times.
With the increase in vehicles, five additional drivers will be hired next month. The city plans to establish a system in which one dedicated driver is assigned to each vehicle.
Mayor Choi Minho stated, "We will spare no effort to ensure that transportation-vulnerable groups can conveniently use Nuri Call anytime and anywhere," adding, "We will continue to realize transportation welfare that citizens can truly feel through ongoing service quality improvements."
