Court Sentences Man in His 40s to One Year in Prison for Cutting Off Electronic Monitoring Bracelet and Fleeing
Arrested After Public Wanted Notice Issued by Police
The court has sentenced a man in his 40s, who cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet and fled, to a prison term.
On June 25, Judge Beom Sunyoon of the Suncheon Branch of the Gwangju District Court sentenced A (48), who was indicted for violating the Act on Electronic Device Attachment, to one year in prison. The court stated, "It is recognized that the defendant committed the crime in a planned manner, such as purchasing a cutter and damaging the electronic monitoring bracelet only four months after being released from prison."
On March 30 at 12:51 p.m., A damaged his electronic monitoring bracelet at a large supermarket in Yeocheon-dong, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, and fled. He then used a taxi and a bus to move around, but was apprehended by police the next morning in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. He was under electronic monitoring after serving a sentence for robbery in the past.
